TEHRAN - The reinstatement of more rejected candidates will not question the performance of executive and supervisory committees, the chairman of the electoral supervisory commission of the Tehran constituency said on Monday.
The rejected candidates probably provided new documents to vetting bodies to prove their qualification, Ebrahim Azini stated. So far, the Guardian Council has approved 581 candidates who were barred from running in the initial vetting.
------------102 NCP candidates approved
Former Gilan Province governor Masud Soltanifar said on Monday that after four stages of screening, the number of National Confidence Party candidates approved to run in next month’s parliamentary election has increased to 102.
The NCP member told the Mehr News Agency that 68 out of 260 NCP hopefuls were approved by the executive and supervisory committees in the initial vetting, and the credentials of 34 more NCP hopefuls were then approved by the Guardian council.
He also expressed hope that the GC would approve the qualifications of more candidates so that a diverse spectrum of political parties would have the chance to contest the March 14 elections.
---------------------------UFF to arrange its list alphabetically
Assadollah Badamchian of the United Fundamentalist Front said on Monday that the conservative faction will arrange its slate alphabetically.
Badamchian also confirmed that sitting MP Hossein Nejebat will replace former Supreme National Security Council secretary Ali Larijani, who finally decided to run in the Qom constituency.
Expressing his appreciation of the current trend of reinstatements by the GC, Badamchian said that now those groups which claimed they had no candidates are able to campaign across the country and the ground is fertile for holding a competitive election.
He also stated that the UFF is going to hold another national congress on February 21 to discuss the front’s election platform.
---------------------------UFF nominees rejected in 7% of constituencies
Ali-Asghar Zareii, representative of the Fragrance of Service faction of the UFF, told the Mehr News Agency that the UFF has finalized its lists in 90 percent of the nation’s constituencies.
However, in seven percent of the constituencies, all UFF candidates have been rejected, Zareii said.
He went on to say that the UFF will officially announce its Tehran slate next week.
“The doors of UFF are open to all fundamentalist groups,” he said, adding, “But this does not mean we will revise our lists.”
The UFF slate has not undergone major changes and it is more or less the same as the one announced before, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Massud Jazayeri, who is in charge of armed forces cultural affairs, said on Monday that people from all walks of life will massively turn out for the parliamentary elections.
Whenever people feel their presence in the political scene is necessary, they will participate actively, and the armed forces, including Basij (volunteer) forces, are no exception, he explained.
---------------- No list parallel to UFF’s
The Islamic Society of Engineers has urged all fundamentalist movements to refrain from announcing candidate lists parallel with UFF’s.
The ISE also praised the Guardian Council for its meticulous and objective examination of Majlis candidates’ qualifications.
--------- Final list of approved Majlis candidates to be ready by March 3
Deputy Interior Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad-Hossein Musapur has said the list of qualified candidates for the parliamentary elections will be published by March 3, Press TV reported on Monday.
According to the schedule, the Guardian Council will deliver the final list of qualified hopefuls to the Interior Ministry by March 3, he added.
According to the election regulations, the list of candidates can only be released after final approval by the Guardian Council, Musapur said.
It is illegal to publish a preliminary list of candidates before the final approval since it is likely that the list would undergo some changes, the official added
